Markus Hohti (b. 1976) is one of the most exceptionally gifted young cellists in Finland. He started his studies at the West Helsinki Music Institute when aged seven and in 1995 continued them at the Sibelius Academy under the guidance of Martti Rousi. In 2000 he took his diploma with the highest possible grades. After that he studied in Basle, Switzerland, with Thomas Demenga. He took his diploma there in 2003.

Markus Hohti is active especially as a chamber musician. His beautiful sound has been heard in concerts and recitals not only in Finland but in various European countries, Russia and the United States. He belongs to the Helsinki Cello Ensemble and has been a member of the Uusinta Chamber Ensemble from the very beginning in 1998. Hohti has given first performances to a big number of works by Finnish composers. He reached the final in the Turku Cello Competition in 1998. In spring 2003 Hohti successfully gave his official debut concert at the Sibelius Academy with a very good reception from as well the audience as the critics.

Hohti is a member of the Uusinta String Quartet.
