Osmo Honkanen
Born 1964
ComposerIn the work of Finnish composer Osmo Honkanen, one can clearly see his background as a church musician. He studied at the Sibelius-Academy with Erkki Jokinen and Paavo Heininen from 1983 to 1992 and took his diploma already in 1990. Honkanen has written chamber music, orchestral works, electro-acoustic and choir compositions and, of course, music for his own instrument, the organ. He has become the most prominent organ composer of his generation in his homeland. Honkanen's music has been performed in Finland, various Scandinavian countries and Japan.
Liber Organi I (Organ Book) is a compilation of Honkanen's organ music and comprises of 14 “chapters”, written with his highly skilful style. The oldest of these compositions, Saecula saeculorum, dates from 1992, and the newest parts of the compilation are from 2002. This is thus a good cross section of his organ music of the last decade. The individual movements can be performed separately, too.
